All-Change at The Mayor’s Favourite Muslim, whoops, Interfaith Group

We reported some years ago, that a small number of younger Tablighi Jamaat activists, had won favour with Mayor Fiaz for the way in which they had orchestrated the social media campaign in the race to get her selected as the mayoral candidate.

They went on to set up the Newham Muslim Forum, which appeared to be the sole conduit by which the council would connect with the Muslim community in the borough. (Detailed in Roxi and the Tablighis.)

In May 2023, the Forum changed its name and apparently its objects, (see Charity Commission) which now read as follows:

This all sounds admirable.

In line with their new ethos, they are registered at the

We are not sure what the reconstituted organisation does, because

Nor can we see how it spends its money,

However, they do have a website and we were able to glean something of their interfaith activities from the posts on the website.

This is the address of the website of the interfaith body promoting harmony between persons of different faiths.

And the email address is in a similar vein.

All of which tends to suggest that this organisation is a bit short in the ‘inter’ bit of interfaith.

Of the three trustees, two appear to be related and again, there appears to be a shortage of Bahais, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Sikhs, Zoroastrians etc. amongst their number.

But when we look at their activity on the website, it might all become clearer.

This is on the front page of the website that we are directed to.

Why is it that a body which purports to be interfaith is actively promoting a single faith? Is run by members of a single faith? It still titles itself the Newham Muslim Forum. And, as the posts below show, runs activities for members of a single faith?

If they had remained the Newham Muslim Forum, there would be nothing to question. As it stands, it looks like there is more to uncover.
