Over 42,000 Signatures! Will Mayor Fiaz Meet the Protesters?

001.png

As the signatures on the petition climb ever closer to 50,000, we wait to see if this will be the next U-Turn from Mayor Fiaz. Will she meet with the protest organisers?

Clearly, she has underestimated the degree of support for the farm. Is she willing to alienate such a substantial body of the electorate?

With local elections pending, less than nine months away, is there a chance that there will be organised protest candidates. We can imagine that she might welcome the chance to rid herself of some councillors, but this would also put some of those upon whom she depends at risk.

Will there be a Save the Farm slate in Beckton and Custom House? Or,

Scrap the Parking Tax candidates in Manor Park and East Ham? Or,

Fair Parking for Shoppers candidates in Green St. Or,

Clean Up the Streets candidates, in well, everywhere.

If Mayor Fiaz does not want to be seen as the person who ended Labour’s monopoly in Newham, she might want to start meeting some of her opposition and discussing how she might be able to respond to the demands of her constituents.
