Ilford South Selection Problems

In a process that any remaining members of the Labour Party in Newham will be familiar with, the members of the Ilford South Labour Party chose to have an open selection in deciding who would represent them on the ballot for the next general election.

Tarry was first elected (during the Corbyn era), in a process which appeared to have all of the hallmarks of a stitch up. Local front-runner and council leader Jas Athwal was suspended from the party when allegations were submitted about him, allegations that mysteriously disappeared when the selection process was over.

This time round the members voted and Tarry was given the boot

Curiously, as a left-winger, Tarry had previously supported the mandatory reselection of candidates. However, that might only refer to other candidates. Now it seems, he is not so keen.

The Guardian reports that Tarry is alleging that there were “membership irregularities”.  This seems to be a problem across the Labour Party in East London! The results of the Labour Party inquiry into Newham membership were never revealed.

Clearly Tarry is hoping for the decision of the membership to be overturned. One suspects that the new leadership under Starmer will be somewhat less inclined to welcome a troublesome Corbynista back.
