Away With The Fairies.

We have previously reported that Labour have chosen their candidate for mayor in 2026, and it is not Fiaz!

They are currently in the process of choosing candidates to stand as councillors. The results of this will be fascinating, but that will be a story for another time.

Mayoral candidate Forhad Hussain has not been very visible to the public yet and from what we hear, that’s just the way Fiaz likes it. The gossip amongst Labour apparatchiks is that Fiaz is in denial, it is almost as if she doesn’t believe that she will be out of office in six months time.

There is no evidence (yet at least) that there is a continuity plan. We hear that neither Hussain nor his supporters are included in the budget planning. Rather than the Labour mayor handing over to a new Labour mayor (assuming that Hussain is elected), it looks like the incoming mayor will inherit the financial plans of his predecessor. 

The new chief exec has a reputation for competence, so we expect to see some tough decisions even if they are taken behind closed doors. But it looks like Fiaz is trying to freeze out Hussain and is with the fairies hoping for a miracle that the labour party may reverse their decision.

It looks like she is not going to exit quietly. We’ll watch this one and report as and when we hear any more. Mind you, the thought of Fiaz standing again seems like a plot to ensure the election of the Newham Independents candidate for mayor.
