By-election Update

Labour has launched, or rather dipped its toe into the by-election, by asking residents of Plaistow North, what they want them to do.

The Independents, headed by Mehmood Mirza have set out their stall and it is highly critical of the local administration and of Labour nationally in respect of Israel/Gaza. In response, the Labour campaign does all seem to be a bit flat-footed.

Labour has yet to choose its candidate. Nominations/applications opened on Saturday 21st October and closed on Weds 25th. Labour has some 24 hours to sift through the names, assuming that they can find a candidate who is willing to fight a seat that is looking increasingly difficult.

Candidates have until 4pm on Friday 27th October to register.

By Friday night, we should know the names of both candidates, Labour and Independent, (and of course, the candidates stood by the Conservatives, the Lib-Dems, the Greens etc).
