“I want change in the way public money is used”

Incompetent, “corrupt mayors” “waste £6.6m” on renovating Queens Market. A resident describes the exercise as a wasteful PR scheme that has failed to deliver benefits to either shoppers or stall-holders.

When formal systems of consultation don’t work, residents take to social media to express their frustration.

This young woman took to Tik-Tok to vent her annoyance with Newham Council and the mayor in particular using very colourful language. The renovation of Queens Market is a case in point for the malaise of the Fiaz administration.

Whilst she expresses her self with hyperbole, and her accusations of personal corruption are, let’s say, overstated, the point she is making about consultants and contractors taking vast sums out of the borough, and from the pockets of the taxpayer while delivering a poor service is a point that is likely to resonate with council tax payers who have had their council tax hiked 40% during the Fiaz administration.

We won’t know for another 12 months how far her opinions have percolated into the wider community. They should act as words of warning to Labour however. If the new mayor (our prediction is that it will be a new mayor) wants to know how to win back the electorate, then he or she should plan to get the basics done right.
