Who’s Standing?

With less than a week before nominations close in the Plaistow South byelection, the following candidates have been announced.

Following the embarrassment of losing a candidate,

Labour have announced that “our fantastic candidate, Ash Singh” will be standing for Plaistow South. Ash said;

“I’m proud to be standing as the Labour candidate in the upcoming by-election for Plaistow South, taking place on 18th September.

“I’m standing because our community deserves a representative who will stand up for local people. I promise to fight for a fairer, greener, and more prosperous Plaistow South. I’ve lived in this area for 4 years. I’ve seen both the challenges we face and the huge potential we have when we come together.”

Fairer, Greener and Richer is Labour’s promise. He seems remarkably upbeat considering that the Labour council is about to embark upon a swathe of cost cutting.

Below we see the candidate flanked, unfortunately, by some of the less popular politicians in the borough, which may or may not enhance his chances.

Newham Independents have chosen MD Nazrul Islam who will be standing jointly for Plaistow South and Gaza Central.

The Conservative Candidate is Rois Miah, of whom we know little and we suspect that the little we do know will soon be forgotten.

His pitch comes from the local website, and whilst we can see that there might be a case for suggesting that the Greens have been supportive of Fiaz, making that case against the Newham Independents seems to be stretching things a bit far. Indeed, Cllr Mirza might feel a little aggrieved that all of his hard work on litter and fly-tipping has been ignored.

I know how difficult things have been recently, and this Labour Council, supported by the Greens and Newham Independents, have done nothing to make our area safer, cleaner or more affordable for local residents or small businesses.

“YOU AND PLAISTOW SOUTH DESERVE BETTER.

“I will be the strong voice that stands up for all local residents and small businesses, to put more police on our streets, stop the littering and fly-tipping that blights our area and stop the wasteful spending that we are paying for.”

The Greens, Reform and the Lib Dems have yet to announce their candidates.
