We have seen how the attitude of former ‘mandatory reselection’ supporting MP, Sam Tarry changed when he lost a trigger ballot in Redbridge. Tarry will now have to fight for his seat in an open selection process.

The supposedly left-wing regime in charge of Newham Council finds itself embroiled in a pay dispute with its own workers.

Readers will recall that Newham has had a history of problems with Labour Party members; some of them didn’t seem to live at the address on their membership card; some weren’t registered to vote; some were in employment but paying reduced subs.

Now it seems that the same thing is being alleged in Redbridge.

We have reported before on the way in which Newham Council is using FPNs (fixed penalty notices) as a means of generating additional unchecked income. The news has reached the financial press.

Labour insiders have recently returned to the progress being made by Councillor Luke Charters, who spreads his time running his own business, campaigning for the parliamentary seat in York, starting his own family and being a Deputy Cabinet member in Newham.

We wonder about the reading habits of some of our correspondents! Recently, one of them was kind enough to refer us to the website of The Socialist Party; you know, they used to be known as Militant. And as part of the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) they regularly pick up 2% of the vote.

It seems that Mehmood Mirza has not let up on his campaign to get Newham Council to clean up the borough. Mayor Fiaz has been vociferous in her promises to improve the state of the streets in Newham. The evidence of this improvement is yet to be seen.

We understand that the favoured tactic of Labour’s Corbynite Left, the mandatory reselection of MPs is being implemented in the seat of Ilford South. Strangely, this time the axe is not being wielded by the Left, but by supporters of the council leader Jas Athwal.

We noted the presence of Newham Mayor, Rokhsana Fiaz on the list of speakers in commemoration of the Pentonville 5. This, it is believed is part of her attempt to polish up her left-wing image in advance of the selection battle for Stratford and Bow.

There appears to be something of a spat between Newham’s two mayors. Sadiq Khan is now in Canning Town on the western edge of the Royal Docks and only a stone’s throw from the proposed exit to the new Silvertown Tunnel. The tunnel will be the first new ROAD crossing of the Thames in London for half a century.

Former councillor, Andrew Baikie enquired as to why it was that Newham council tax payers have suffered a 20% hike in council tax payments over the last four years, (with the implication that the same will happen over the next four years.

Fifty years ago, the Royal Docks were undergoing a massive change. New technology in the shape of containerisation meant that jobs in Newham were moving eastwards to Tilbury.

The former Chair of this august body is now, not only a councillor, but has been elevated to the role of Deputy Cabinet Member and Bag-Carrier-In-Chief for She who must be obeyed; he has his sights set upon even higher office as we have seen elsewhere.

We understand that Cllr Shantu Ferdous is taking Newham Council to court!

In order to vote in an election you have to be registered to vote at an address that is your permanent (or sometimes, temporary) home. It is an offence to mislead or falsely declare your residence.

We’re all in favour of different wings of the party talking to one another. Here we see ex-Corbynite Rokhsana Fiaz and “very good friend” the new Corbynite MP for Ilford South engaging in conversation at a Labour Party BBQ. Strange. The Mayor of Newham is there, the Leader of Redbridge isn’t.
