Godfrey Stirring the Pot, Again?

Not content to alienate the future leadership of Labour in Newham, former Labour councillor Lewis Godfrey has taken metaphorical pen to paper to alienate Labour’s leader and its apparatchiks.

The “serial election loser who works in Labour’s head office” is presumed to be one Sophia Patel.

It was Patel who stood for Labour in the Boleyn by-election.

Her foray into electoral politics as a candidate was not marked by success. It marked the accession of a certain Mehmood Mirza as the first Newham Independent councillor. Mirza took 1,553 votes to Patel’s 871. In a pattern that was to be repeated in future by-elections, Labour lost half of its vote compared to the previous ballot.

If she hopes to be deputy mayor she has presumably been selected for a safe Labour council seat, but that does rather beg the question, which seats in Newham are safe for Labour nowadays?

And if she truly has aspirations of future greatness she is going about it the right way. Gone are the days when Labour wanted parliamentary candidates who had experience of life outside politics and heaven forbid that they should actually have achieved something. Far better to get a political hack, and preferably one not known for independent thinking.

We saw how Labour imposed two NEC candidates on Newham and one in neighbouring Barking and Dagenham. It’s looking less and less like a political party and more like a careers office for Labour apparatchiks.
