Only a few weeks to go and the mayoral statements from the various candidates have been released. We take a brief look at them in the order in which they appear.

Labour Has Chosen
Labour has now decided upon its candidates for the 2022 local elections in May. It seems like a victory for Mayor Fiaz who has cleared out almost all of those connected to the ancien regime and imported a number who will be unfamiliar to readers, and to most of the local Labour Party!

We know that Newham is effectively a one-party state, but surely this missive from the London Labour Party to its members must be a little presumptuous.
Fiaz Re-Selected as Labour Mayoral Candidate
The NEC has spoken. Rokhsana Fiaz was re-selected as the candidate who will contest the mayoralty in the local elections in May.
Rokhsana Called Back? NEC Panel Unable to Decide?
It seems that the interviews for the Labour Candidate for Mayor were held on Tuesday 1st February. As we predicted, the only candidates were Rokhsana Fiaz and Unmesh Desai. No results have yet been announced.
It seems that Ms Fiaz needed to be called back for a second interview on Thursday 3rd February. The procedure has been somewhat opaque so we don’t know the reason that the panel needed to see her again.
Who Will Wear the Crown?
From a panel of about eight candidates who submitted their names with regard to an interest in the Labour candidacy for mayor, the NEC have decided to interview two.
Let the Members Speak?
It does seem that some of the candidates for the position as Labour’s candidate for mayor have decided that it would be a good idea to engage with the membership in the selection of that candidate.
Six of the declared candidates were invited to sign the letter below, for reasons unknown, but which can be surmised, one of them chose not to.
